March 12th the Lamphere concert and symphonic bands had their MSBOA band festival held at Warren Woods Tower High School, with concert band going 1st, they put on an amazing performance with the pieces Cougar Mountain for the march, Lake County Land Scapes and Chasing Sunlight doing very well on their concert cycle, sight reading went very well and got amazing compliments from judges, comments saying how they “added style markings that the composer didn’t add but should have” I asked our very own Lamphere band director Mr Garvey on his thoughts and feelings about this festival season for Concert band.
Mr. Garvey’s thoughts on Concert band: “The amount of progress was very incredible, they not only learned how to interpret the literal notes and rhythms and they intended to make good music out of it which judges recognized and they ended up being rewarded for in the end”
Later in the evening Lamphere symphonic band performed their concert cycle (The Boom Boom Gallop, A New Day Arisen, and Credo) also doing very well in their concert cycle. In sight-reading the judge complimented the, very well and gave a couple notes adding on the comment that the band should invest in a new snare drum.
Mr. Garvey’s thoughts on Symphonic band: “Being an older group they are already pretty accustomed to that part of the process, turning the notes into meaningful music and really took it over the top and impressed everyone, not just showing months of hard work but really made it something special and just made it go.”
My thoughts: I’m so so proud of this group; I’m very happy with how everything went, even with minor inconveniences and little mess ups everything went really well! I’m happy to say that I’m so proud to be a part of this group and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way for my last festival! I’m going to miss doing this so much it truly is an experience I think everyone should have, our band and other bands in general just have such a great community, I’m so proud with the performance we put on and I’m wishing the next group luck with next year and I will be cheering them on I know they will continue to do amazing things.
