Hello, everyone! I thought I would be able to do a video but I’m majorly burnt out on them, so I’m resorting to writing for the last two publishing cycles of this school year. But anyway, today’s topic is: THEE MICHAEL BIOPIC!! I got the chance to see it when it came out in U.S theaters on April 24th, so my memory is a bit fresh with the movie (mainly due to me seeing clips and such). I’d like to talk about the biopic itself, the accuracy it had, along with my opinion on it as a long-time MJ fan.
The Biopic: With production spanning over three years, people such as myself were anticipating the biopic to be very lengthy since Michael’s career is very long. Casting began the same time as production, so January of 2023. After practicing and shooting the film, it came out on April 24th, 2026, and was immediately met with success. Some critics thought it wasn’t substantial enough to represent Michael’s story, but most moviegoers loved it and how it shed a light on Michael’s supposed weirdness (his animals to be specific). The movie has brought in approximately over 400 million dollars as of writing this, setting a high bar for any biopics after this one.
Accuracy: There were some limitations the director, Antonie Fuque, had with adapting Michael’s life into a movie. Not only was Diana Ross supposed to be portrayed (which is highly important due to her involvement with Michael’s “Off The Wall” and their inappropriate relationship), but Janet Jackson declined involvement with the movie too, leading to a lot being pulled from the plot—Janet was not included in the early stages of the Jackson 5 and Diana’s scenes shot by Kat Graham were pulled. But besides the ladies, the story itself had more accuracy than inaccuracies. Even though some points of Michael’s life weren’t brought into detail (probably due to pacing and legal details), they were still mentioned and referred to throughout the movie. I appreciated how Jaafar, Michael’s nephew and the one who’s playing the “King of Pop’, wanted his uncle’s legacy to be shown in a way that wasn’t by the tabloids at the time before and after his death.
My Opinion: 9.5/10. I LOVED this biopic, especially since Jaafar nailed his Michael impression. He didn’t back down on training to dance like his late uncle, which is shown behind-the-scenes. I loved the costumes, the plot itself, and Jaafar being backed up by the Jackson family. So, if you were wondering to book a ticket: GO GET ONE!!
