How does a Michigan Alum become the G.O.A.T?
The New England Patriots for as long as almost anyone has lived have become known as one of the best NFL teams of all time. But now in the last few years they have been very lackluster, barely winning. They did have some good players like Mac Jones, and then now Drake “Drake Maye” Maye. There was once a time where the Patriots were easily known as the best team in football, and there was an unathletic kid out of Michigan that led that team. There will never be a QB as good as he was. Meet Tom Brady, the G.O.A.T.
WHO IS TOM BRADY:
A kid who was born in San Mateo, California. A kid who grew up loving football but he wasn’t anything special. Brady was an excellent baseball player, yet that wasn’t his passion. Yet Tom was a freak of nature with his work ethic, all he ever did was wanna get better. He would watch films constantly to get better. Brady lived and breathed football but no D1 scouts seemed to notice nor care. He was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the MLB draft, but his heart was focused on football so he turned them down. He sent his tape all around the Division 1 football program, and eventually The University of Michigan gave him a chance. But this was back to square one, as he was the 7th QB on the depth chart. But he kept working harder, and harder. Not getting a chance at the starting job until his junior year. Even then they still rotated around with more QB’s but when he had his chance he shined. Leading Michigan to a 20-5 record in his 2 years, even leading 10 game winning drives. Tom Brady showed his talent to the world or so he thought. Now once again the NFL scouts doubted this kid. Saying how he wasn’t good enough to be a QB in the NFL. Yet the New England Patriots, at the 199th pick they picked the best player in the history of their team. After all of the doubt from others it didn’t matter, Tom Brady knew how good he was, and whatever anyone else told him was wrong. During his Rookie year, he worked his way up to the 2nd QB on the depth chart. This is where Brady assumed he would be as Drew Bledsoe was the Starting Quarterback, and had just signed a multi year deal with the team. Then everything changed when Bledsoe got hurt. Brady then led them to an 11-3 record, in which he led the team to the playoffs. Then in his very first Super Bowl, he led a game winning drive for a game winning kick. Becoming the youngest QB to win a Super Bowl (At that time). Which was just the start of an insane career for Tom Brady.
HOW MANY RECORDS DOES BRADY HOLD?
The thing is, when you talk about Brady, it’s easier if you talk about the records he doesn’t have then the ones he does have. Tom Brady has the most regular season wins in a career with 251 wins, and as well as the most playoff wins ever in a career with 35. The most passing yards in a career 89,214, the most passing touchdowns in a career with 649. While also having the most Super Bowl victories with 7, and going to the Super Bowl 10 times. He even has 19 division titles, and is the only player to beat all 32 teams. This is all without mentioning the fact that he is the oldest ever NFL MVP, and the oldest 1st team all pro player, which was both at the age of 40. Even having 10 consecutive playoff wins from 2001-2005. Tom Brady is known as being really clutch, and the records back it up. Brady has the most 4th quarter comeback wins of all time with 46 , and most game-winning drives ever with 58. He is easily the most clutch player of all time. This is without mentioning the fact that he came back down 28-3 in the Super Bowl, which was one of if not the best comebacks in NFL history. Tom Brady easily has some of the greatest achievements in the history of not only the NFL but sports in general.
MY OPINION ON BRADY:
My opinion on Tom Brady will always be the same, he is the G.O.A.T. and he was easily the best player out there, night in and night out. He may not have been perfect, he still found a way to be as good as he could be. I think Brady is a clear example of an athlete who didn’t give up on himself, and decided to bet on himself when no one else would. His story is an amazing one for any athlete, it almost seems so Hollywood. It is overall a feel good story, one that sort of shaped the rest of the NFL’s history. No matter what, the Greatest of all time, in a sport or anything will and is very subjective, but this is one where it’s hard to deny greatness. I think to go from not being wanted, to playing at a D1 football program then turning into the G.O.A.T is one of the most insane jumps a person can do.
