DECA is a club / program many high schools around the globe offer to students, our Lamphere DECA program is run by Justin Sharrard offering a wonderful business and marketing experience and community that teaches and prepares participants to be leaders and entrepreneurs providing them skills such as management and hospitality. If you are interested in a career in marketing or finance you should look into DECA at Lamphere High School.
This year looking into DECA, history was just made by 2 seniors Tanner Langdon and Jackson Jankowski becoming the first ever state champions at Lamphere, we asked them all about their experience and how they got to where they are now and why you should think of joining next year.
Jackson and Tanner: “Early in the month of march me and my partner Jackson Jankowski competed at DECA states in Detroit Michigan. There we made Lamphere history by becoming the first ever DECA state champions from our high school. This means that we will now go on to compete at the next level, the highest level, the international level there. We will go to sunny Atlanta Georgia and we will compete against the best DECA competitors on the globe. I have to thank entirely for my DECA skills, the great people i was surrounded by last year especially my former DECA advisor, Mrs. Graham she taught me most of what i know about DECA and then DECA partner abby ferris, together we became state champions, but this year under the teachings of Justin Sharrard, incredible DECA leader in addition to my new DECA partner Jackson Jankowski we made lamphere history by being the first ever state champions in DECA.”
Jackson: “Despite it being my first year in DECA I feel like it was a little bit intimidating joining my first time as a senior but getting into the judging room it felt very natural.”
Why should people join DECA?
Jackson and Tanner: “People should join DECA because it’s an awesome experience overall and it’s an amazing way to make connections and develop your skills. At DECA it makes you confront things you might be a little uncomfortable with like presenting in front of people you don’t know or people that might be a little intimidating or situations you don’t fully understand, and when your put in that position you are taught how to dress and speak professionally you develop these skills to become well versed in the world of business and professionalism initially it sets up a lot of opportunities to meet people who are connected in different fields and are experts in different topics.”
