Students from our Lamphere Unified Team traveled down to Detroit on Monday (Feb. 23rd), and took part in a “Court of Dreams” basketball game against Forest Hills Northern.
Coaches Nolan Vest, Payton Hill, Meredith LeSage, Camila Fluery, Chirstiano Vijelie Lixanderu, and Troy Hill were the ones who helped our incredible athletes in the game on Monday, and were overjoyed to see each of the amazing players get to experience such an incredible opportunity.
The students played a full 4-quarter game and ended up falling short by just a few points. Lamphere Athletic Director came with our Unified Team and was the announcer for the game!
The team was very happy to see some familiar faces out in the stands! A wonderful handful of students showed up to the game in support of our team. Students: Kaylee Derderian, Johnathan Skowron, Nathan Fortuna, Acadia Sandoval, and Jerry Taylor all came out to support us and it was so nice being able to see fellow students showing up for these athletes!
Looking back on the season as a whole, this was a wonderful way to showcase how far we have come as a team. Our skills have improved so much; Dribbling consistency has increased, and endurance and speed have skyrocketed for so many of our athletes. Not to mention our offense and defense! Students Keshawn Tucker, Michael Murray, and Owen Taylor are 3 of our best rebounders under the net! Making sure to keep up the pressure and fight for the ball has helped not only those 3, but all of our athletes. Our shooting has also improved by a lot aswell. Students Mateo Sabou, Daijah Jackson, Christopher Valee, and many others have all been making great progress with taking shots at the net!
Overall progress was really shown at the game, and it was so rewarding watching each and every athlete be so happy and proud of themselves while playing!
