This past week, tryouts for the Competitive Cheer team took place from November 10th to 12th. The girls were given a small part of a cheer to learn and they did their best skills, aiming for that varsity spot. 20 girls were accepted onto the Varsity Competitive Cheer team, 8 Seniors, 7 Juniors, 3 Sophomores, and 2 Freshmen. Throughout the season, they will try to reach different goals, working to get to the State Finals. We interviewed four girls on the team from each grade and asked them about their personal goals and team goals for the competitive season. This is what they said.
Cianna Nixon (Freshman)- “My personal goals are to keep working on new skills and being able to try new things, working to get into more rounds. As a team goal I think working together and being flexible, and sticking round 2 tucks.”

Taytum Matney (Sophomore)- I am going to work hard. My personal goal is to get my layout by doing my drills at home and working very hard in gymnastics. Team goals are to make it farther than we did last year and maybe make it to states by never giving up.

Catherine West (Junior)- “My personal goals for this competitive season is to work on my motions, jumps, and positivity to become more successful in my rounds. My team goals for this competitive season is for all flyers to have team heel stretches. I also have a team goal for everyone to stick their tucks in round 2. I believe we will achieve this through hard work and actively striving to be better”.

Ellie Rogensues (Senior)- “My personal goal for my last season is to land my back tuck, I would love to finally land it after 2 years of working on it. Three goals I have for the 2025-2026 competition season is to grow each competition, beating our total score. I would also like to have team heel stretches. It shows that we have worked over the off season and summer season to get an advanced skill. My last goal for this season is to end with the dream team, on the state mat.”

Last season the program made it to regionals for the first time in 13 years and were also MAC champs. These girls are ready to continue the fight and hopefully make it to the State Finals.
