Tate McRae is a 22-year-old Canadian singer/songwriter/dancer. She first started her career dancing at a young age, where she went to the Dance Awards (one of the most prestigious dance competitions in the United States) and won Mini Best Dancer (2013), Junior Best Dancer (2015), and Teen Best Dancer (2018). In 2016, she went on “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, where she placed 3rd. During her competitive dancing days, she also started a YouTube channel where she sang covers of popular songs. This later would be the place where she would post her original songs.
Her first hit song came out in 2020 and was titled “You Broke Me First”. After that, she kept making hit music that really resonated with her fans. In January of 2020, she went on her first tour for her EP “All the Things I Never Said.” After that, she waited 3 years to go on her second tour for her debut album “I Used to Think I Could Fly,” which started in September 2023. After this tour, she started her world tours with the first, “Think Later,” announced in November 2023. Just this year, she started her second world tour, with the opener being Zara Larsson. This tour was called “Miss. Possessive” with her songs that were in her album called” So Close to what”
Tate McRae has done really well over the last few years, earning 9 nominations for the MTV Music Awards, 2 for the Kids’ Choice Awards, and 2 for the People’s Choice Awards, among many others. Just this year, she got her first Grammy nomination, and fans are over the moon excited for her. This is a huge step in her career so far. This year’s Grammy nominations are top-tier and have a lot of competition. She got nominated for Best Dance Pop Recording for her song Just Keep Watching. The other artists that she’s against are Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Zara Larsson, and PinkPantheress.
Although this is her first Grammy nomination, this is not the first time fans have wanted Tate nominated for a Grammy. Last year, she had submitted herself for the Best New Artist category; however, she did not get nominated for that category because the rule states that you can not submit yourself more than 3 times for that category, and she had already submitted herself 3 times before last year’s Grammys for that specific category. Nevertheless, this is still an exciting year for Tate McRae and her fans, and hopefully, sometime in the future, she will win her first Grammy.
