As the school year comes to an end and students across the school start getting their yearbook signed, our wonderful Mrs. Martin can finally take a small step back and breathe. Mrs. Martin has been running the yearbook here at Lamphere High School for quite some time now, and this year just adds one more year to the list! The theme of this years yearbook is “Diary of a Lamphere Kid: RAMMY RULES”.
To wrap up her stressful time with this yearbook, I took some time to ask Mrs. Martin some reflective questions on her time and effort that was devoted to this yearbook!
What was your biggest setback this year, and how did you overcome it?: “This year, the students decided to build a Diary of a Wimpy Kid themed yearbook, and the issue with that was the iconic images from that series are all copyrighted, so we built the first 3rd of the book, and received a cease and desist from the company saying that we could not use their images. So we then had to use AI to make new images to change the pictures a certain percentage so that the pictures no longer looked like the main characters of the series.”
Which student was your biggest help this year, all-around?: “Finishing the yearbook, finishing the spring sports was Shaniya Allen. She volunteered and offered to cover a lot of the spring sport events and games outside of the school day to complete the spring supplement. When it came to the main publication of the yearbook, Ellie Rogensues and Grace Holman did a lot of styling and “razzle-dazzling” to pages after students had completed them, really helping to build our theme across all of our pages.”
Do you have a favorite page for your yearbook this year?: “I like the caffeine and cups page, because when we built it we learned a lot of photo editing skills and the students got really creative with the placement of those images.”
Did you have any second-choice themes instead of Diary of a Wimpy Kid for the yearbook this year?: “2nd place was Toy Story, and I think 3rd place was Netflix, which ironically would’ve given us the same issues that Diary of a Wimpy Kid gave us.”
What made you choose this year’s theme?: “The class voted for this theme! The majority ruled, since we have a democracy here, that was the verdict.”
Mrs. Martin’s hardwork definitely did not go unnoticed this year, along with all of her amazing students. We are nonetheless excited to see what the future holds for Mrs. Martin and her next yearbook staff!
