What is a Highland Cow?
A Highland cow which is then an ancient Scottish breed which was from where their origin was dating back in the 6th century. Known to being vere loved animals. They were known for their gentle nature and despised for having long horns. They are also specifically adapted to live in mountainous climates which then have a double coat for isolation. Another thing that they are known as is Hairy coo, which is due to the fact that they have hairy long shaggy coats. From being native to Scotland.
Highland’s characteristics
Appearenace- They have long wavy hair that can be either red, ginger black to even yellow, Also said that they have long horns. Which is said to even have thicker horns then cows do.
Habitat- It was said that they live in rocky hillsides, cold climates, mountainous regions.
Diet- They tend to eat grass, pasture which is more common, but are also capable of consuming roughage like tree leaves, woody plants, shrubs.
Communication- They are able to communicate to a complex mix of vocalizations (moos, grunts, showing body language). They also use distinct, individual calls to being able to express emotions like hunger, fear.

Oldest registered breed- Something that I find interesting which made me shocked was that highland cows are the oldest breed, which dates back into the 6th century.
Multi colored coats- Something that I find interesting is that they have different colored coats which are either red, ginger, yellow, white, brindle.
Water proofed hair- Highlands which are being said that they possess the longest and the thickest hair of any other cattle breed that they are featuring and outer layer of oily hair which can keep them in either rain or snow.
Social affection- Highland cows are also very social, which they seem to be scary at first but they arent. To show affection to each other through licking and fighting.
