This weekend, the varsity and Jv dance team had the final competition of their season. The varsity dance team won grand champs for their sixth year in a row! Both varsity and Jv took first in pom. Also, the varsity team took 1st in hip-hop as well. The Varsity dance team’s scores were phenomenal, and they were something for these girls to be proud of. In Pom, they scored a 337, and in hip hop, they scored 334.5 out of 350.
To close off this season, let’s recap the team’s last time together and see what some of the girls had to say about their inner thoughts about their final competition of the season.
Abbi Welsh, a Sophomore and one of the Captains on the Junior Varsity Dance Team:
I think that was our best competition out of the whole season, and we ended the season as state champs! I think we worked hard, but I feel like we did have some areas that we could’ve been stronger in.
Gianna Zivojnovity, a freshman on the Varsity Dance Team:
For every competition we went to, we put in the work and improved so much after every competition we had. This competition season has shown how much hard work we put into making these dances better than we could have imagined, which is amazing. This season was an amazing start as a freshman and as a varsity athlete. I can’t wait for the next season!!!
Cassidy Kudla, a Junior on the Varsity Dance team:
Given our first place in pom and hip-hop and keeping our reputationon 6x grand champs, we crushed the dance floor this past competition with the strong wins. Really giving it our all for the last time as a whole together. I strongly believe that we wrapped the 2025/2026 season on an incredible note. We all individually grew so much this year, and it really showed out there. Competitive season is a very big mental challenge for all. It’s the last part of the season, but the most important time. It’s our way to prove to everyone what were capable of. We aren’t recognized as much as the other teams, but all that matters is that we show everyone our accomplishments and do it for each other as a team.

Lilly Miller Senior Varsity Dancer:
I thought the competition went very well, and I did get a little emotional after we danced, as this was my last dance competition as a member of this team, and it all just hit really hard for me. I thought the dances that we did were all really good, and I feel like everything really hit that was supposed to hit. I will forever miss this team, and I’m so proud of the way we ended our season on a good note by winning grand champs.
Karra Hurkett, Coach of the Varsity Dance Team:
The team did amazing at this last competition. We have worked really hard to make these dances the best they could possibly be. We set a goal to really impress everyone at this final competition, and I think we accomplished that. Last time, best time! This season ended on a great note! Couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap up the season than maintaining our Grand Champ title for the 6th year in a row! This was a fantastic competition season. We truly loved these routines and were excited and motivated to work on them every day. We made improvements every week, we were on the same page with our goals, we stayed healthy and didn’t have to make any last minute changes, we kept positive going into every performance, and we really gave it our all at every competition. I’m so proud of the whole team for their hard work and dedication this season!
The dance team ended their season on a very good note. Everyone on the team should be proud of all the hard work that they put in throughout the year. Also, a big thank you to our coaches, Varsity Coach Karra Hurkett and Junior Varsity Coach Camdyn Young, for believing in us and pushing us to our fullest. We couldn’t have done this without you.
