I am starting a new series where I’m going through the Michigan State men’s basketball team’s roster and doing an overview of their character, skillset, and where I think they will end up. First up, star PG Jeremy Fears Jr.
Jeremy Fears Jr. has quickly become one of the most compelling young guards in the country. As a sophomore, he is showing poise and leadership beyond his years. A former four-star recruit, Fears arrived at MSU with the nickname “the floor general”, a point guard who prioritizes ball movement, defensive intensity, and smart decision making. Fears’ freshman season was cut short because of off the court adversity when he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. The comeback story resonated throughout the college basketball community and added deeper meaning to each minute on the floor.
As the Spartans continue to develop their young talent, Fears is viewed as a foundational piece. Coach Tom Izzo has emphasized his leadership traits, noting his communication skills and competitive edge. Tom Izzo has always lived through his point guards, players like: Mateen Cleaves, Travis Trice, Cassius Winston, and AJ Hoggard of previous years. These players have to be leaders and excellent role models for the rest of the team.
I talked to Henry Kramer, a fan of the Spartans that goes to LHS. I asked him, how does Jeremy Fears make you feel? “Wow, Jeremy Fears Jr. makes me feel safe. Especially looking back at everything that he’s been through, he makes me feel like nothing can knock me down and anything is possible”, he said. I also asked him, what do you think Jeremy Fears will accomplish this season? “As a non-biased fan, I think that this season Jeremy Fears will win the B1G player of the year, first team all-american, first team all B1G defense, and on top of that, MSU will run through March Madness and win the natty.”
In my own un-biased opinion, Jeremy Fears is one of the most talented players that I’ve ever seen in a MSU uniform. I believe that Jeremy Fears will stay his remaining two seasons at MSU and finish his career with at least one national championship. He will be a consensus lottery pick and lead an NBA team as their PG.
