Red, White, and Blue and Gold Twice Over
The Winter Olympics have now come to an end but not without U.S. making history. This was in the men’s and women’s hockey, as they did something that has never happened before. This was both of the teams winning gold.

First I wanna talk about the amazing girls team that won gold, this team was very well constructed, and this lead to them winning gold in overtime against Canada winning 2-1 in overtime. Hillary Knight had the game tying goal late, and then Michigan native Megan Keller scored the game winning goal in Overtime. This win is very big for women’s hockey, the last time was 2018, but it still is amazing to see not only the United States win, but it’s also good to see amazing athletes get decorated for their accomplishments. I thinks this team is phenomenal, and they can only get better. This team is one for the ages.
Another big thing is how many people from Michigan were on the Olympic teams the girls only had 2 from Michigan, being Megan Keller, and Kirsten Simms both key pieces of the team, and both showed out for their state. Now for the Men’s team there was 6 members on the team from Michigan, these players are Dylan Larkin, Connor Hellebuyck, Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, Zach Werenski, and Kyle Connor. Michigan has the most amount of people from a state on this Olympic team, and to me that shows how we have fit into the nickname of “Hockey town” well.

The Men’s hockey game was a game to remember, this was the first time since 1980 that the Men’s have won gold, and it was a game to remember. This game was a very close, but well fought battle. United States took an early lead after an excellent goal by Matt Boldy, but Cale Makar went ahead and answered back, and the last 2 periods the United States did not look good, as they looked sloppy but also tired, but this time would not give up. In Overtime, Jack Hughes, who during the game had his teeth filling taken out by a hockey stick, went ahead and scored the “Golden Goal” and led to the United States, winning gold. This moment was a very big moment for United States hockey, and was an excellent showing of what is to come for this game in the future. This game was an amazing moment, and will be looked very fondly for the rest of time. Red, White, and Blue and Gold Twice Over.
