What is an Orca?
An Orca is the largest member of the Dolphin family. Which is mainly being known for its distinctive black and white markings. As well as that, Orcas are also highly intelligent marine mammals. They are highly social, possess complex communication, and exhibit their cultural behavior. Orcas are also known to hunt cooperatively in packs where they would have a strategy to be able to hunt their prey, tail slaps, or beaching themselevs in order to hunt for their prey.

Mainly, people will know Orcas as a Whale, since it’s what people know them as. But in reality, they’re actually Dolphins because they belong in the Oceanic Dolphin family known as (Delphinidae), which in that case would make them the largest species of Dolphins.

It was to be said that a group of ancient sailors and fishermen had observed a group of Orcas hunting and being able to consumming larger whale than themselves. No sense of smell: Something about Orcas that people might not know is that they don’t have a sense of smell due to the fact that they evolved to lose their olfactory bulbs, which are being structured into the forebrain. That produces sounds that are bouncing off objects, which have the sense of finding their prey.
Half brain sleepers: As you may not have known, Orcas are able to remember to breathe. Orcas actually sleep with half of their brain while the other half is able to be alert of its surroundings. They also close one eye when they are sleeping.
Apex predators: Orcas are actually to be known as Apex predators, which means to be the “top predators” and are at the top of the food chain, having no natural enemies. As highly intelligent social marine mammals.
Incredible speed and stamina: Aswell as being highly intelligent, they also have incredible speed and stamina. Where they reach at the top speed of 34 -37 mph
Menopause and matriarchal: Female Orcas are one of the few Marine Mammal speices going through menopause, while older females can lead their pods for up to decades.
