Is Jazz music in decline?
Jazz has been a very popular genre of music in the 20s through the 60s it became less popular in the 70s as it was the rise of indie/rock. It is now one of the least popular genres. It is now considered a niche, or “underground” art form, though it remains alive and active in dedicated venues and communities, with dedicated fan bases and continued evolution.
Who is Laufey?
Laufey, pronounced LAY-vay is a 26 year old artist from Iceland, Laufey has gotten her inspiration and love of music from her parents as her mother is a classical violinist and her grandfather is a violin educator. She also has an identical twin named Junia which people often mistake for Laufey. Laufey has been playing the piano since the age of 4 and the cello since 8, she also grew up doing ballet and figure skating. Laufey began performing as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at age 15. She started to get attention in 2020 after posting videos of her singing and playing music. Her debut song is called Street by Street. This started her musical career which now has grown tremendously with 24.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, 2.77 million subscribers on YouTube and 7.5million followers on Instagram. Some of her more well-known albums are Everything I Know about Love which was released in 2023 and A Matter of Time which is her newest album released this August.
