September brings the excitement of football, sideline cheer, dance, marching band, and other activities, signaling that homecoming is just around the corner. A cherished tradition among Lamphere High students is the homecoming float parties. Typically held at a student’s house, these gatherings allow classmates to collaboratively create their homecoming-themed float. Whether making flowers to adorn the float or assembling the structure itself, students work diligently to win the float contest.

In light of the float-making season, I decided to ask a few students about their thoughts on attending these parties. I first asked Evelyn Dempsey, a senior, how she feels about float parties. She responded, “I think they could be more organized, but they are a great way for students to engage with their classmates.” Next, I asked Madison Hayter, also a senior, about hosting the float-building process. She said, “It’s an interesting feeling to be behind the scenes of building the float.”

I then turned to the underclassmen for their perspectives. I asked Brooklyn Boyd, a junior, what she enjoys most about float parties. Her reply was, “I like the sense of community and the way you can connect with other classmates.”
Overall, it seems that students at Lamphere High enjoy attending float parties, as they provide opportunities to see friends, connect with classmates, and have a great time.
