Have you ever heard someone mention a school club and had no clue what it meant? Because I have, and this got us wondering how many clubs we have that are underappreciated because people don’t know what they do. We made a list of some clubs, including Be the Change, DECA, and Pact. These are a few clubs we feel like aren’t mentioned as often, or some students may not know the concept of the club.
Be the Change is a club that focuses on making the world a better place by promoting a culture of kindness and compassion. Some things they do is they made a care closet where they keep necessities for students and staff who need them. This is one of the many things that they do. The advisor for this club is Mrs. Vollmayer. We feel that this club is important to help students build compassion towards each other and their community by helping others. Their status is currently pending
PACT stands for Power to Achieve and Conquer. It is a student-led group that provides leadership training; it focuses on being responsible for yourself, but also offers team building and school/community alliances, and fellowship that encourage student growth academically, and otherwise. The advisor for this club is Mrs. Martinez. We like the idea of this club because it helps students build confidence and work with each other, and provides leadership opportunities.
The Diversity Club is about uniting students through their culture, and some fun things they do are go on field trips exploring different cultures in museums, and have a luncheon where students can bring foods from their culture to feast on, to appreciate how different every culture’s food is. We feel like this is important because students here at Lamphere should all have the opportunity to express their culture around and feel welcome at our schools. The advisor for this club is Mrs. Haziri.
DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, and students get to experience real-world business opportunities to prepare them for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. This is a really good opportunity for any student who’s interested in getting into the business world and is willing to put themselves out there more. They went to Deca states last year. The new advisor is Mr Sharrard.

Are you or one of your friends interested in joining any of the clubs that we discussed in this article? If you feel excited and want to learn more, there are easy ways to get started. First, you can reach out and talk directly to the advisers who lead these clubs. They can answer your questions and give you all the details you need. Second, you can attend their next club meeting to see what they do and meet the members. Both of these steps are simple ways to get more involved in activities at our school.
